Context
Linux administrators maintain and troubleshoot Linux servers and Google devices, such as Android hardware and smart displays, in Google labs in several countries. The team works on-site from Mexico and Colombia. I manage the account remotely at Capgemini, in parallel with other projects.
Responsibilities
- Leading delivery, team performance and day-to-day operations.
- Initial hiring for the team.
- Client relationship and direct coordination with client stakeholders.
- Conflict resolution, performance reviews, 1:1s and tracking team engagement.
Outcomes
- Team build-out: I hired 4 engineers in under a month, matching talent to the needs of the client and the lab.
- Job profile: the job description Google provided was not attracting candidates near the locations where they were needed. I restructured it and secured qualified candidates in Mexico and Colombia.
- Operating within SLA: I made sure incidents were handled promptly. The Android device test servers run within the SLAs of Google’s clients, which vary by client.
- Relationship with Google: positive feedback on the team’s performance and communication, with a stable project and satisfied engineers.
