Context
At the Mexican Football Federation I worked on two fronts. The first was the Integrated Sports Information System (SIID), built to automate processes and cut the Federation’s time and costs. The second was the LIGA MX sites and microsites, with real-time updates. I joined as a junior developer and went on to lead a team of 4 engineers.
Responsibilities
- Leading a team of 4 junior engineers.
- Gathering SIID requirements together with stakeholders.
- Building and running the LIGA MX sites.
- Coordinating IT and logistics for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Mexico 2011.
Outcomes
- Architecture for match days: I redesigned the LIGA MX site architecture with Node.js and Memcached for real-time data flow, and built live stats with Node.js, Redis and Socket.io. The site handled approx. 10,000 concurrent users with faster response times.
- FIFA U-17 World Cup: I ran the Pachuca venue and coordinated IT and logistics. FIFA named me lead support for the final at Estadio Azteca, and critical FIFA operations ran with zero downtime.
- Career growth: promoted from junior to senior developer within one year.
